Jim Guthrie Wins TA Cup Class at Road Atlanta in Dramatic Battle Braselton, GA (March 16, 2026)
Jim Guthrie drove the No. 62 Guthrie’s Garage Ford Mustang to a hard-fought victory in the TA Cup class during Round 2 of the 2026 Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.
After starting the weekend with a qualifying penalty, Guthrie rebounded with a strong Sunday performance. He engaged in an intense, clean wheel-to-wheel battle with Cole Moore (No. 32 Chris Evans Race Cars / JM Environmental Ford Mustang), running side-by-side through multiple corners as brief rain showers swept across the 2.54-mile road course.
Adding to the excitement was the impressive debut of Phil Fogg, Jr. (No. 67 Chris Evans Race Cars Ford Mustang) in his first TA Cup race. Fogg quickly showed strong pace, running close to the lead battle and pressuring the top two for much of the event as part of a thrilling three-way fight for the class win. Unfortunately, an on-track incident later in the race forced him to drop back, though he recovered to secure third place and demonstrate the competitive depth of the field.
Guthrie made the decisive final pass on Moore in the closing stages and pulled away to the checkered flag.
Post-race, Guthrie reflected on the exciting event: “Who doesn’t love Road Atlanta? Wow what a great road course! The race was a lot of fun, especially when the rains came for a few laps. Amazing racing with the guys and hats off to Cole. We were side by side for three corners and never touched. What a clean racer he is. Overall it was a great weekend as we made the final repass of Cole and made a bit of a gap to the checkered flag. The performance of these TA Cup cars continue to impress me. They are so fast and fun! I look forward to the up coming double header at Sonoma where I believe there will be 10 plus cars in TA Cup!”
Guthrie’s win highlights the growing strength and appeal of the new-for-2026 TA Cup National Championship class, which continues to deliver close, competitive racing as part of Trans Am’s 60th anniversary season—bolstered by strong newcomer performances like Fogg's promising debut.
